Lapsang Souchong Black Tea
Frontier Smoked Loose Leaf 1 lb
Lapsang Souchong is one of the most famous
teas in the world, originating in the Wu
Yi mountains of China. It is the only smoked
tea, and was invented by accident - soldiers,
who wanted to harvest a tea crop to make
some quick money, tried to dry the tea leaves
too rapidly by smoking them over pine fires.
They thought the crop was ruined but the
tea was sold to England, where a taste soon
developed for this unique smoky variety.
Lapsang Souchong has long been a favorite
of the British Royal Family and for millions
around the world.

Kukicha Organic Twig Tea
Frontier Loose (Camellia sinensis) 1lb
During the fall in the Uji district, the
traditional center of the Japanese tea industry,
Japanese tea farmers harvest tea twigs from
tea bushes, for Kukicha, the 'peasant's
drink', so-called because farmers drank
it after selling the leaves to sophisticated
urbanites as a cash crop. They carefully
select 40% medium 3-yr, 40% thick 10-yr,
and 20% thin twigs and leaves aged 1 year,
before gently roasting each variety separately
to bring out its rich flavor. Because caffeine
is concentrated in the leaves, twig tea
is low in caffeine and can be drunk even
at night.
